Need climate controlled storage-not really!

Climate controlled storage is not always necessary! 
You may have heard that you need a climate controlled unit to keep your furniture safe in storage. This is not always true! Non-climate controlled storage is an affordable and convenient option that just takes a little bit of advanced planning. 

1. Control Any Moisture: Do this first! Put down a plastic tarp that is the same size as your unit on the floor. This prevents any moisture from seeping through the concrete floor. This can also be done or enhanced by placing wood pallets on the floor before loading the unit. use moisture absorbers like silica gel packets or "Damp Rid". Check often and replace as necessary.

2.Use Protective Packaging:
Invest in sturdy, waterproof plastic containers. Always place plastic containers closest to the ground and then stack cardboard boxes above. Use the appropriate size mattress bags and completely seal with tape. 

3. Use shelving in your unit to keep your items organized and off the floor.

4. Use pest deterrent such as peppermint oil on cotton balls or encased mouse poison. Vacuum all upholstery prior to storing to eliminate any crumbs that can attract vermin.

5. Never store anything that is irreplaceable such as important documents or priceless art.

6. Always make sure your have insurance on your stored belongings.
